sir, 'yong patient po na hinahanap nyo expired na po kaninang madaling araw. this i was told by the nurse attending the 5th floor male ward of that hospital.
i was stunned. for few seconds i just stood there, staring blankly on her face. i only moved when my eyes started to blur.
i was supposed to donate blood to a friend's brother. leukemia. i was speaking with my friend early last night and i confirmed to donate today.
at noon time, i was at the hospital. and i was too late.
this is disheartening.
earlier, while walking through long hallway looking for the room, that distinct smell at the hospital brings back the memory of my father who died 3 years ago, especially the moments we were at the hospital constantly needing blood and my brother and i are the easiest donors. so when i heard the sad news from the nurse, tears easily found its well from my eyes. first because one dear life was lost. secondly, because i somehow feel how my friend is going through earlier this morning.
i pray eternal peace for her brother. and to my friend and her family, strength to go forth with the coming days knowing there are many friends willing to support them in this time of mourning.

I look at death in a different light, a culmination of life's troubles and struggles. Though I cried when my parents passed away, their death is a continuation of their love up above. May your friend's family be strengthened by prayers and love within themselves as they accept the brother's journey to heaven.
Hi jonathan, it is not always easy to bring up this positive side of things to a grieving friend/family. i too know that and it would take some time. in due time.
